I don't get that sinking feeling when I walk in my apartment anymore, thinking that your head will pop up at the end of the hallway on the leather couch, my brain has finally caught on and I don't go creeping up to look. I thought of you when I resigned from my horrible horrible job this week - face to face with the HR lady who told me I wasn't allowed to mourn over you like I lost a child. Speaking of 'love you everyday' I watched an SVU marathon on Sunday and at the beginning of every episode I was reminded of how not only me but everyone who knew and loved Squeek would make up nicknames, sayings and songs for him. Everyone knows the theme song to L&O but next time try singing to the tune with just saying Squeek Squeek Squeek Squeek, Squeeeek Squeeeeeeek. Other classics were Prince's could you beeee, the most beautiful dog in the world. My sister thought he enjoyed her rendition of Olivia's I love youuuu, I honestly love youuuu, best.

This month I feel like I've had a relapse in my Squeek grieving process. I've noticed myself pushing things away and shutting people out. Attention everyone: I don't want to watch your pets while you're away or babysit your kids or love anything anytime soon. thx

The thought of getting another dog has come and gone, I know I would end up hating it if it didn't act like Squeek or hate because it acted too much like Squeek :/ hmmf. If you were here I'd ask you what you thought - but I know you'd hate hate hate if I got another dog because you were a selfish punkass. I found a video on my computer this weekend of us playing catch that displays this quality completely, I'll post it later if I have time. You loved to run after the ball but you would never give that shit back.

This is when I begin to think I'm going through some days when I haven't thought of you and for some reason I feel bad about that. When I'm alone I sometimes click for you and yell out Queekie-boo, luv you everyday! I'm convinced the bathroom door creaks open because the ghost of you wants to come in and lick the shower water off my feet. You haunt my dreams when your little dead dog body comes to life in my arms and I jolt awake pissed off at you which is eerily similar to how our sleeping arrangement was when you were alive.

Squeeker had split personalities some of which had fantastic tall tales that came along with them. One was that he had trouble fitting in with the other dogs when we moved down to Savannah. I lived in a not so nice part of town so it was only time before Squeek joined a gang, not only a tough thug kind of gang but one that met up for late night fight clubs. I would report home to my mom and sister keeping them updated on my life, new apartment, school and Squeeker's climb to the top of the 912-dog-crew, they were proud of his ability to fit in and fight.

Another completely serious personality Squeeker upheld was his nerdy computer chat addiction. He needed to be up on your lap ANYTIME you were on the computer so that he could chat with his best buds, sn3krp00ch16 being his favorite of course. And if you were trying to chat with your friends he would sit on the keyboard or your hands or scratch at your knee. What a jerk.

Good days and bad days and days when I still think he is here. It has been two months since I've seen Squeek's bologna sandpaper tongue sticking out at me. Holy jeez I miss him.

The people who knew Squeeker knew that he was a punk-ass. I would take him to Forsyth Park and he would act cool until another dog came near him. No matter what size the dog Squeeks would charge at it and either weave in and out of their legs or grip on and dangle from their ears. Sad that Squeeker could not make a friend at Forsyth I had a great idea to take him to the fenced in dog park that was attached to one of my favorite coffee shops. This was where he could feel more free to make some dog friends, um worst idea ever. I get there and three large dogs are running around but for some reason thought it was a safe environment to plop Squeek on the ground so he could get some running freedom. To the three big dogs it was like I dropped a fresh slab of meat and hollered come and get it! Ive never seen my dog run so fast, I've never seen myself run so fast, it was mayhem. So there I was the one and only time I've ever wore khakis chasing three mud covered dogs who were after my little guy. Owners sat in shade covered adirondack chairs and sipped their coffee like this cartoon chase scenario was a weekly event. I pulled a mound of mutts off of Squeek who was now chillin in a submission pose drenched in dog drool. When I lifted him up to hold him the other dogs must have been jealous because they rose up on me to be lifted too. I was covered in everything awful you can imagine lurking on the grounds of this park. On the farm smelling car ride back to my apartment I explained to Squeeker-doodle you may act like a big tough dog but you just got served and apparently so did I.

Tomorrow marks the one month anniversary of Squeeker's untimely death and I miss the shit out of him.

I'm scared that, like my memories of my father, the memories I have of Squeeker will fade over time. So every month around the 28th I will share a kick-ass tale about my rabid monkey.

Scanning over my old LJ I found a picture story about living in the first apartment Squeeker and I shared back in Savannah. With no cable and limited dvds we had to keep ourselves entertained, which lead to some pretty interesting conversations and adventures.

1/14/04 breakfast, the most important meal of the day
I awoke at 830am from a horrible nightmare that included Colby coming to Savannah to break up with me, escorted by his mother who was looking like she was ready to throw down.

- Walked little dog.
- Worked out for an hour and felt like I had just got hit by a car.
- Sat down to eat some Special K.

Noticed that my milk had no opening...

Unable to break the small blue tab-less seal with my teeth,
I reached for help...

Yay I thought, now I can eat my cereal, cause I'm wicked hungry. Until the door bell rang. Disheveled, sweaty and hungry I went to the door only to find two chipper Jehovah’s witnesses.

They informed me, with 'proof' from the book of Psalms, some jibber jabber that Jesus is among us. Unimpressed I smiled and nodded hoping they would go away. I thought to myself, God, wasn't it enough that I had to put up with this for 10 years, don't I deserve to relax, eat my Special K and watch my Saved by the Bell dvd.

But lucky me, I didn't walk away empty handed, I got reading materials...

Which I pinned up on my door saying took one for the team this morning, so the other tenants would know how lucky they were not having the most visible door bell.

Squeeks and I discussed the Jehovah situation...

His thoughts were...

"Those bitches were straight trippn, thinkn they could just ring yo bell and force religion down yo throat!"

This site has opened my eyes this morning to some artists I should have known about. I've been a fan of Robert ParkeHarrison since I caught his work at Decordova a couple years ago and when I started scrolling through the timeline I noticed similar artists. In particular -

Polish photographer Berenika Haladová has gorgeous work. Foggy dreamlike images with bursts of strong contrast that make you feel anxious yet within the same breath incredibly at ease. It's like they crawled into my head at night and captured the sharp turn of emotions my dreams drag me through. The site is a bit temperamental but be patient, these photographs are worth it.

i hate this stuff it's hard to read
This was filmed around the time when he came and spoke at SCAD I believe. When I saw him speak he told a story about a project he was supposed to be working on at one time, that he forgot about until the day it was due. He quickly took a disposable camera, stuck it out the window of his office and took a picture. That random shot pretty much ended up being the final piece and the company who requested it loved it. For some reason that story always stuck with me. Don't take your art too seriously, let the people who purchase and view it do that.
